♜ RookMentor

Terms of use

This draft describes how RookMentor is meant to be used. It is not in effect. Places that need a legal fact are marked [TODO: Daniel confirm].

The service

RookMentor is post-game analysis only. It reads finished public games and explains what already happened. It does not watch a live game, and it does not suggest moves while you are playing. Scouting a player uses their past public games before you sit down, not assistance during the game. [TODO: Daniel confirm] the legal entity offering the service, the governing law, and the effective date.

Accounts

An account is optional. If you create one, you use an email you are allowed to use. The sign-in link is for you. You can log out, which ends that session.

Pro subscription

Pro is billed as a Stripe subscription. The Pro page currently shows a price of $6 per month and says you can cancel anytime. Checkout and the billing portal run on Stripe. [TODO: Daniel confirm] that price, the billing period, taxes, what canceling does to access, and the refund policy. Nothing in this draft is a promise of a refund.

Acceptable use

No live-game assistance

Do not use RookMentor to get move advice during a game that is still being played. The product is for review after the game, and for looking at public history before one.

Your own access

Do not use someone else’s email, session, or payment method. Do not try to break rate limits, disrupt the service, or probe it for access you were not given.

Public usernames

Looking up a public username is allowed. Using a report to harass a player is not.

Disclaimer

Analysis, coach text, drills, plans, and forecasts are educational. They can be wrong. They are not a promise that your results will change, and they are not personal, legal, or financial advice. RookMentor is an independent tool. [TODO: Daniel confirm] any relationship, or the lack of one, with chess.com, Lichess, or anyone else named by the product.

Limitation of liability

[TODO: Daniel confirm] the limitation of liability, including any cap on damages, any exclusions, and any warranty language. This section is a placeholder. It does not limit anything until it is written and this draft is approved.

Contact

[TODO: Daniel confirm] the contact email for these terms. The about page is how players reach Daniel today. That is not a substitute for the legal contact.
